Five Message-Making Categories For Sharing Your YOU

You love what you do. Your work is meaningful, purposeful, and it makes a huge difference to your perfect who. You have amazing clients who you love working with (and who love you), but now you’re ready for more.

You’re ready to step up and take your message to a wider audience, and you’re ready to build more momentum.

But what’s the best way to achieve that desire?

In the Age of the Individual Messenger, knowledge is two-a-penny! There’s so much information out there – so much that we filter 99% of it out. In other words, we need a different approach if we’re to cut through the noise and send a stream of light to our perfect clients?

Enter the power of speaking your truth.

It’s true that the potency of showing up as the full, authentic expression of who you are is often underestimated. After all, it sounds too simple, right?

But we’re quick to overlook the fact that our truth is unique, interesting, and valuable. We’re quick to think the ‘experts’ who’ve walked before us have all the answers and that their way is THE way.

Fact is, the world doesn’t need another copycat. It needs more YOU.

Here are FIVE CATEGORIES to explore as you sharpen your message, amplify your vision, and embrace fearless visibility to make  YOUR unique mark on the world.

1. Your backstory

Your backstory is the story behind the thing you do. It’s the story of all the experiences, triumphs, hurdles, heartbreak, and transformation that empower you to do the work you do.

Your backstory is important because your first-hand experiences give you credibility and authority. It’s proof that you’re not simply regurgitating stuff you’ve read in a book or learned from someone else. Instead, it’s proof that you’re drawing from your own life.

It’s proof that you’ve lived and breathed the stuff you talk about – and emerged stronger and wiser as a result.

2. Your personal philosophies

Your personal philosophies are the way you think and why. For example:

  • The things you believe are worth fighting for
  • Why your work is important and transformational
  • What you believe is ‘right’ and ‘wrong’

Your philosophies create a framework and context for your message. They influence what you want to talk about (and what you don’t). Your philosophies are also the root of your message depths. When you unravel your thinking, you dive beyond the superficial and unlock ‘real talk’.

When your philosophies give you a rock-solid foundation, you empower yourself to talk about your area of expertise from a place of ownership and certainty.

You’ll need to commit to an inner journey to unlock your personal philosophies. That’s because a lot of what’s actually driving you is hidden below the surface – deep in your subconscious. It takes courage and commitment to unravel it all, but when you do, your message will evolve.

That’s because whether you’re aware of them or not, your philosophies will infuse through your message. Figure out what they are, and you can incorporate your ‘you’ into your content and messaging more intentionally.

It’s the difference between superficial and deep and meaningful.

3. Your skills and talents

It’s pretty obvious that your skills and talents are a key part of your message. After all, they form the backbone and bedrock of what you do. They enable you to create change and transformation in your clients.

But here’s what’s interesting…

There’s a good chance you have skills and talents that you use every single day – but don’t honour, recognise, or embrace.

Here’s an example…

I have a copywriting background. One of my skills is infusing space with words that inspire, inform, empower, and sell. My work is about igniting relationships, building momentum behind an idea, and helping audiences make aligned choices.

But when I sold myself as a copywriter alone, I undermined and overlooked the core of what I do.

Looking back, this was an easy mistake to make. Words on a page were the tangible result of my work. But there’s so much more that goes into the creation of an email, a blog, or a sales page.

The thing that makes me good at what I do is my ability to extract a message and then put it into words. This skill requires active listening, skilled questioning, empathy, space, and the ability to connect up a million dots and formulate a message that makes sense.

In the past I didn’t see any of this – because it came naturally to me. I thought everyone could do it. Only when I started getting feedback from clients about this strength did I come to see how beautiful and rare a talent it is.

And the same will be true for you 🙂

What is the thing that you do so effortlessly and naturally that you don’t realise how powerful it actually is?

Take the time to uncover this, and your message will take on a new lease of life (it’s how Find Your You was born). Unlock the hidden core of what you’re called to talk about and you’ll light a new fire under your content that just won’t burn out.

4. Your life experiences

The life you’ve lived provides you with a treasure trove of stories to tell. It’s a super simple way to be unique – even if you’re talking about similar topics and themes to other people.

Anecdotes and examples give your expert knowledge context. Remember, stories stick because they speak to our narrative brains. Our ability to understand, process, and learn from stories helps explain why humans have been so successful as a species. The fact we could pass on vital knowledge enabled us to survive.

Stories spark something primal in us. They help us understand information by giving us an example to see theory in practice. They spark our emotions too and cause us to feel something.

In an age where we’re overloaded with information, your stories help cut through the noise. They’re like a hand reaching out from the internet abyss – telling your perfect audience that you get them.

That you understand where they’re at.

That you’ve felt their pain and have been able to move forward from it.

So turn your life experiences into stories. Use them to build connections and strengthen your relationships with your perfect who. Use them to spark conversations, demonstrate empathy, and magnetically attract the people who you can best serve.

5. Your personality

Your personality is your vibe, your energy, and your character traits. It’s the way you show up and the way you make people feel. It’s the beacon that shines out in the sea of chaos – calling the right people towards you.

So use it 🙂

Don’t try to be someone you’re not. Don’t dial down parts of yourself because you’re scared to stand out and because you fear what others might say.

Instead, own who you are. Love who you are and let it all shine.

Be bubbly, introverted, fierce, serious, funny, sarcastic, smart, energetic, brave, bold, enthusiastic, straight-talking, loud, quiet…

Whatever adjectives describe the real you, leverage them.

Embrace them and elevate them.

In the Age of the Individual Messenger, people don’t want a dumbed-down version of you.

They want ALL of you. They want to see your most authentic expression because the world is crying out for more truth. So show up.

Be unapologetically you.

Speak your truth.

And use the fire it ignites to unlock your message and share it with the world.

So much more than words

The message you were born to share is more than the words you type onto the blank page.

It’s more than your expert knowledge.

The message you were born to share is a beautiful combination of your backstory, personal philosophies, hidden talents, life experiences, and personality.

When mixed together, you create a formula that no one else can copy.

Because there is no one else just like you.

So speak your truth. It’s how you can create a ripple and send out waves just by being you.

You have a piece of the jigsaw that can help us all.

So stop hiding it and don’t be afraid of it.

Instead, speak your truth, rise up, and be fearlessly visible with what you’ve got.

It’s time to use everything you are, everything you stand for, and everything you know to inspire transformation.
